Join a pioneering initiative

Help build the future of conservation in Colombia

You are invited to a special event in Bogotá on April 25th, 2025, showcasing “La Ruta de Las Alas” conservation initiative. This gathering will be a unique opportunity to learn about the work Colombian and International partners, local communities, academics, companies, and other organizations, have been carrying out to protect one of the most fragile ecosystems in Colombia.

The mission of this initiative is to protect the endemic Antioquian sac-winged bat (Saccopteryx antioquensis), a threatened and endangered species, and the ecosystem that ensures its survival. By attending this event, you will be able to participate in a highly collaborative model that generates positive long-term social, environmental and economic impacts.

You will also learn about the strategy behind the Ika refuge, the guardian of the Karst Corridor of Eastern Antioquia, the first Habitat Bank for bat conservation in Latin America. This innovative approach to environmental offsetting not only protects this unique species of bat, but also ensures the long-term management, restoration, and protection of this critical ecosystem. Overall, this approach positions La Ruta de las Alas as a global benchmark in conservation finance led action and implementation.

What is “La Ruta de las Alas”?

It is a conservation initiative aimed at large-scale habitat protection and restoration utilizing sustainable finance mechanisms.

The current focus of the work involves developing practical solutions for the implementation of habitat banks, enabling the conservation of key ecosystems and simultaneously complying with environmental offsets, both mandatory and voluntary.

This conservation strategy has resulted in a collaborative model in which interested parties from diverse sectors work together to achieve a tangible and long-lasting impact on the conservation of Colombia’s fauna and flora. La Ruta de las Alas aims to protect and create resilient ecosystems while also generating social and economic benefits for local communities.
